This workshop is based on ongoing research collaboration between the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science
in the Faculty of Science & Technology at Prince of Songkla University and the Department of Statistics in the Faculty of
Science at Chiang Mai University. In the three half-day sessions, participants will use freely available software on computers and thus learn about scientific methods for (1) estimating numbers of deaths by major causes in Thailand, (2) forecasting time series data such as annual world tuna catches and maximum temperatures in Australia, and (3) constructing confidence intervals for making valid comparisons of statistics such as university admission rates by gender adjusted for department, and bone marrow transplant survival rates by hospital adjusted for year and age group. |
